Winter fun at the Wilder Kaiser, away from the piste.
Not everyone in the family wants to ski — and not every day of a holiday has to be a ski day. Around the Wilder Kaiser there are four marked toboggan runs: two on the Astberg right by Going (one towards Ellmau, one towards Going, each about 3 km, intermediate), the Hexenritt run in Söll (3 km, intermediate) and the Mondrodelbahn in Söll (4 km, easy, over 8 m wide — ideal for younger children too).
On three of these runs you can also toboggan in the evening from Wednesday to Saturday — floodlit, with the lifts running. If you like it traditional: Going has an ice rink and an indoor ice stock hall, plus prepared winter walking paths all around the Kaiser. WINTER FROM THE GAFALHOF

From the Gafalhof, the classic winter outings away from the ski slopes are a few minutes to at most 20 minutes by car. Some are reachable on the free KaiserJet ski bus, others with a short drive.

Four toboggan runs are currently marked in the Wilder Kaiser region: the Astberg run towards Ellmau (3.00 km, intermediate) and the Astberg run towards Going (3.20 km, intermediate), both right by us, the Hexenritt run in Söll (3.00 km, intermediate) and the Mondrodelbahn in Söll (4.00 km, easy). The current grooming status is updated daily on wilderkaiser.info.
Yes — from Wednesday to Saturday three runs in Going and Söll are open in the evening. The routes are floodlit and the lifts carry you up to the start. One important point: ordinary day, weekly, points and season tickets are not valid for night tobogganing — there are separate evening rates. Details and current times: wilderkaiser.info.
Yes — the Mondrodelbahn in Söll in particular, at over 8 metres wide and graded easy, suits families very well. The other three runs (the two Astberg runs and the Hexenritt) are graded intermediate — for those we would suggest some tobogganing confidence and boots with a good sole.
There is toboggan hire right at the valley stations in Going and Söll — you can pick up a standard toboggan or a horned sledge before you ride up. Handy for anyone who would rather not bring their own.
Yes, Going has an ice rink — in the village itself, a few minutes from the Gafalhof. Perfect for a quieter afternoon between other activities. Opening times and skate hire change with the season, so it is best to ask the Going tourist office.
